Other features include 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, Intel GS45 Express chipset, Wi-Fi connectivity, Fingerprint sensor, Felica port and SD memory card slot. You can also choose Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Business OS. However, I am not sure the Celeron processor will be able to handle Windows Vista OS. A solar powered notebook PC has been an awesome no-brainer of a great idea for years. But until now, laptops have been too power-hungry and solar technology has not been efficient enough to make this green dream a reality. The time is now upon us that we can bask in the sun of new day of endless and cordless laptop use. Meet Gyy, the first solar powered netbook.
Spanish company iUnika is set to launch next month an uber-cheap (and uber wimpy) netbook that runs on solar power. Coming in at about $200, Gyy weighs only 700 grams, runs on Linux (hence the small price) and is made of biodegradable materials.
Make no mistake, the Gyy won't be a gaming netbook, as it runs on a 400Mhz MIPS processor and has only 128MB of RAM. On the good side though, you get a 64GB solid-state storage space, three USB ports, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
Gyy's display is not on the brilliant side, either, with only an 800-by-480 resolution on the 8-inch screen. But these rather antiquated specs have their advantage, as you would never run out of power (virtually that is) on the Gyy, thanks to the solar panel mounted on the lid of the netbook.
The solar panel charges the Gyy's internal battery and you can check the state of the battery via the small LCD display on the lower left corner of the netbook. Initially, the Gyy will be available only in Europe in June.

Three other notebooks were tested this month. All had some interesting features, but various shortcomings kept them off the chart.

Verizon Wireless is expected to offer a netbook tied to a multi-year contract for its wireless data service. It will be the latest offering where an inexpensive netbook is tied to an expensive wireless contract. On May 17 Verizon Wireless is expected to offer the netbook HP Mini 1151NR for $200 (after rebate) that will cost you an additional $1000 in data access fees due to the mandatory two-year contract with Verizon Wireless. Interested?
Verizon is also saving the May 17 date to rollout a new portable hot spot called the MiFi. This $99 (after $50 rebate) devices is made by Novatel, and is designed to allow you to create a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices -- be it a notebook, camera, or gaming device.
The HP Mini 1151NR's specs are not yet available, but the netbook is part of HP's Mini 1000 family and some guesstimation (based on the Mini 1000's specs) would give it an 8.9-inch screen, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, and 1GB of RAM. It would come with either Windows XP Home (SP3) or Ubuntu Linux and 16/32GB solid state or 80GB hard-drive options.

HP unveiled their new generation of all-in-one PCs. The new HP TouchSmart family of PCs feature HP software designed specifically for touch control. A finger tapped or swept across the high-resolution screen delivers quick access to information, entertainment and social networks. Without using a keyboard or mouse, consumers can play music and create playlists, zoom in or out of photos, and quickly check the weather or watch TV. These all-in-one devices would appeal to folks who dont have a lot of room and who really want a lot less clutter. The Wireless mouse and keyboard only add to the minimal experience offered by the Touchsmart Series. In a speech in front of about 4000 attendees to MacWorld conference (San Francisco), Steve Jobs showed the latest model of laptops: MacBook Air. With the theatrical style that characterizes him, Steve Jobs took out a regular manila envelope, legal size, and removed a real live Macbook Air. Jobs claimed he have made a comparison with all the current thinnest laptops. The MacBook Air will be available in stores in two weeks and it will cost $1,799. Two treats for the price of one here folks, we’ve got the latest laptop from style gurus Asus and titbits on a new mobile nVidia 7 series graphics Funnily enough, this happens more than companies would like to admit: one launches a product not realising it has unannounced peripherals inside. That said, nVidia doesn’t seem to be on the warpath so something must have been agreed beforehand. Let’s start with the laptop and work our way down.
As always, it’s a bit of a looker – dubbed the A6Vm – it has a 15.4in WXGA screen yet weights only 2.8Kg. This can be backed up with an AMD Turion 64 or Pentium M 700 sequence processor, a maximum of 2GB of DDR2 533MHz RAM and a 100GB HDD. A swanky extra is the integrated 1.3 megapixel camera, with more standard stuff like Bluetooth, wireless g, and SPDIF output making up the numbers.
